Wi-Fi & Photography … No ‘One-Trick Pony’ This PingWi-Fi

What did they call yesterday? Wasn’t it “Small Business Saturday” or something like that, a round two of shopping — wedged in between Black Friday and Cyber Monday?

By the way, I for one hate the term “Black Friday” when associated with the official retail beginning of the Christmas Holidays. I mean … the term Black Friday stems from a really negative dark day in history. Can’t we leave it at that? I digress …

Anywho, as my friend Randy is prone to say, (now he has me doing it) … yesterday I set out to enjoy retail people watching, with a little computer action and some time to play with a new Christmas toy. Actually “tool” is a better word — for the camera, not me.

In the next few weeks on this blog, I will be reviewing the new Nikon D7000 digital camera — 16.2 megapixels, 6 frames per second, yada yada yada. So, yesterday, I took the opportunity to get acquainted with the camera. Initial thoughts — pretty darned easy to get started, and already a marked improvement in detail, although I hope to get better … NO Wi-FI feature, although there is a GPS add-on available, for geo-tagging, yo.

By the way, there is only one more day left in my holiday furlough, and then on Monday I ship off for another Dirty Gig in the San Francisco Bay area. It was a great little Thanksgiving visit to Funkytown Fort Worth. I got to see some of my best friends, ha … and I saw three people I haven’t seen in over 15 years — all within in a 24-hour period. SCORE!

If you know me, you know that no trip home to Fort Worth would be complete without some tweeting and blogging from my favorite caffeinated watering hole– Starbucks on University. It has world class people watching — especially when there is an equestrian event over at neighboring Will Rogers Arena … and of course there are the “regulars” … the characters who make the coffee shop their home-away-from-home, holidays or not.

Anywho … as I was trying out my new toy (the Nikon), my old friend Reggie was trying out a new toy for his own self — a white pony named — irony of ironies — “Barack.” Barack … white horse … catchy, Reggie! Was it a gift horse?  Reggie is a trick rider, and a staple in most of the parades around Cowtown. Ha … I shot him back behind Staples (with camera) … I understand the stuntrider has also done a stint on Animal Planet???

He is the ultimate good sport. I mean … he even decorates his horse for the holidays. More on Reggie at a later date …

One last thought … when I was a kid on the farm, my dad had a working cattle horse whose lineage went back to a famous, famous, champion Quarter Horse named Leo Bingo.  The name of his horse (a gelding by the way)?  “Jingles” … Ha, ha … think about it.

Happy Holidays!

Know what I sayin?
